We have been asked to help our neighbors Patrick and Melinda Rudisell, Hooven, Ohio, who are subject to eviction from their rented premises of the last six years on next Monday, Sept 28. They are behind in their rent to the extent of $2,800. If they are not evicted next Monday, they need another $1,000 toward October rent. They say they can pay the October rent in installments the landlord said it will accept notwithstanding that rent is due on Oct 1. But they need $2800 to clear the arrearage prior to the eviction hearing.
Melinda has some mental health issues and has recently been through an episode of COVID (which delayed our processing of their case). She has recently started a job as an afterschool caregiver from which she earns a few hundred dollars per month. She has also applied for full time at home employment with a financial institution based on a family connection, but if successful, her start date will not be for several weeks. Her husband Patrick has a full time job at an automotive concern in the West Chester area. He recently suffered a heart attack and has missed work. They were already behind in their rent and when they failed to meet their payment plan, the landlord filed the eviction lawsuit. Thankfully Patrick is now back at work. The couple is also behind on their utility bill, but have been assured by Duke that they can get into the HEAP program (and perhaps PIPP) if they are able to stay in their residence. Utility payments are presently deferred till Nov 1.
We have spoken to the landlord and confirmed that the eviction proceeding will be dismissed only upon receipt of $2,800 by the end of this week. Going forward, the landlord will adhere to the payment plan formerly in place, which the Rudisells assert they can meet. This couple may soon be homeless without some outside assistance. Their resources suggest they should be OK going forward if they can get out of the current situation.”
We appreciate any help you can give and hope we are able to come up with the $2800 needed. St Joseph NB will contribute $800, and pray that we collect the balance from you, our SVdP conferences.
