Mini Vinnies is a group of children around the elementary and middle school age who meet regularly to grow in faith and help those in need within their school, Parish, and local community. Mini Vinnies encourages young people to get to know God better by interacting with social justice issues and living out their faith through works of charity.
Taking Action, Mini Vinnies Style
Derived from the parable of the Good Samaritan, Mini Vinnies aim to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Himself in using the simple formula of “See, Think, Do” when acting charitably.
See: Our first step in caring for anyone is to seek and find them. Mini Vinnies seek to see poverty in all the shapes it takes, even those that are less obvious. It is easy to see those with visible needs, but we must look deeper, beyond judgement.
Think: Our second step is to get our thinking caps on and discern how Jesus would help those we’ve seen. We must remember that we are called not just to see Jesus in those we meet, but we must also be Jesus to those around us.
Do: Now it’s time for action! Mini Vinnies act prayerfully and with loving thoughtfulness, open to changing our ideas in order to better “see” and love the person in front of us. No matter what we decide to do, we should do it with love.
Reflect: Mini Vinnies consider their experiences along with any possible encounters with Christ.
